To whom it may concern,

The word ‘pulchritudinous’ is ugly, just hideous. The word ‘diarrhea’ is pretty and delightful. ‘Quotidian’ is rare, but ‘grandiloquent’ is attention-seeking and tasteless. ‘Byzantine’ is unnecessarily complicated and frankly a labyrinth, while ‘wee’ is teeny-tiny. The word jazz only needs one ‘z’ but we gave it two, and when we speak the word ‘silent’ it no longer is. Defining words with other words is paying off one credit card with another, and many names has the devil. words are wind, so they say. but they also say a man is only as good as his word, and to tell the truth to shame the devil.

Call them what you want, words are tricky. They are not long for this world, meant to live but not to last. Even words of love, words long written down and carved into music quickly end, maybe even quicker for it. If words could change the earth I wish that I could write the rhyme. I’d speak the lines to last and hold and to show you what it’s worth. But I cannot, and so I will simply ask, help me find the words and we can make them right.

As always,

Matthew Cameron
