To whom it may concern,

Ripping and tearing are easy. Folding is an art. The word origami means folding paper, but it is more than that. It is the same piece of paper, making different creatures and shapes, without damage. The folding, more than the paper, is what makes them what they are. Now I will try and make origami include all folding, whatever the material.

There are valleys in our minds. Every time we lie or laugh or fight or dance, it makes a crease in our brains. If we cheat or work or swear or joke enough the crease becomes a groove. If they are too deep we can start to depend on them too much. It is a well-worn rut of conversation, like telling the same story to the same people for the third time or checking our email again just after closing it. Our reasoning is full of deep gouges, like smoking cigarettes or violence. Those are trenches that are difficult to escape. Then we have to iron out the wrinkles and start again before our minds rip and tear. The only power we have really, is that we can fold our own brains. Origami is hard. It takes time and effort but what we do becomes who we are, and that is enough for me. Because if loving you is not what I do, but who I am, then I will be happy when you tell me not to repeat myself, because you will be telling me I am still

As always,

Matthew Cameron
