To whom it may concern,
Edmund Hillary and Tenzig Norgay first reached the summit of mount Everest in 1953. Can you imagine the songs they were singing? Can you imagine the view from the top of the world? Nowadays five hundred people try and climb mount Everest every year. There are lineups like at the movie theatre. It really must be quite a view. I don’t know how many make it to the top. Some people who manage to climb it even talk about having beaten it. Can you imagine that? Being tougher than a mountain?
Einstein figured out that there is no such thing as an absolute position in space. That everything is relative to something else. I hope it doesn’t seem too self serving to say that I agree with Einstein. I suppose the world is round, and the top of the world can be wherever you want it to be. It can be the summit of mount Everest, or figuring out a really tough physics problem, or just sitting by a quiet lake not doing anything at all, not even thinking. Maybe Einstein would agree with me, I don’t know. It’s no harm to suppose, and It’s nice to think that when I’m with you it’s not only a feeling, I really am on top of the world. Maybe I’ll tell you about the view sometime.
As Always,
Matthew Cameron
